Two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal will miss this year's Masters at Augusta after failing to overcome ongoing injury problems.
The 44-year-old Spaniard, who won the Green Jacket in both 1994 and 1999, has not featured in a tournament since October, as he continues to be blighted by rheumatism.
Olazabal's manager Sergio Gomez confirmed: "He has pain in his shoulder, forearms and hands. He can't swing properly, so we won't be going.
"He is practising a little bit, but for not much more than an hour. If new miracle remedies help then he will be back, but traditional medicine is failing."
Meanwhile European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has welcomed the news that Tiger Woods will return to action at Augusta after a self-enforced period away from the game.
The Scotsman commented: "It is great to hear the news that Tiger has set a date for his return.
"He has certainly been missed by the players and fans and I am sure everyone is looking forward to seeing him at The Masters."
