Miguel Angel Jimenez edged out European number one Lee Westwood in a play-off to win the lucrative Dubai Desert Classic.
The veteran Spaniard had looked on the back foot throughout the three-hole play-off after Westwood missed championship-winning putts at the first two extra holes.
However, he held his nerve when going up the par-four ninth hole with an impressive up and down to claim his first European Tour title since May 2008.
Both players had missed the green in regulation after driving into the rough but Jimenez came out on top despite the momentum appearing to be with Westwood.
Final rounds of level par 72 from both had set up the play-off, although Westwood required a nail-biting birdie at the final hole to draw level with the Spaniard on 11 under par.
"I like the golf course, I like the ambience and I like the people and I am very happy," said Jimenez, who also picked up a winner's cheque for almost 300,000 Euros.
"I made a very good putt on the second hole of the play-off on the 18th that kept me going then I had a putt to win.
"My last win was in 2008 in the PGA and it proves the old guys like me can win."
Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee (73) finished third after missing a short birdie putt on the last hole which would have put him into the play-off.
Martin Kaymer and Edoardo Molinari shared fourth place after closing rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.
One shot further back were Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy (73) and Spain's Alvaro Quiros (75).
