The agent of Branislav Ivanovic has warned Chelsea the Serbian will consider leaving Stamford Bridge if he is reinstated at right-back following the return to fitness of John Terry.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the last six weeks, and although Ivanovic’s agent suggested the player would happily sign a new deal at the Premier League champions, the versatile defender longs to play in his preferred position in the centre of defence.
Ivanovic was named in the Premier League team of the year at right-back last season, but the recent injuries to Alex and John Terry has seen him get a run at centre-half, and his agent warned Chelsea he wishes to be retained there.
Dejan Joksimovic told the Daily Mail: “The player's contract with Chelsea still has a year and a half to run,
“The club itself is fine, the only problem Ivanovic has is his position, as he prefers to play as a centre back and instead he is often used as a right back.
“We will talk to Chelsea at the appropriate time. If he is offered a new contract and we agree on all aspects then he will sign.
“But if not, at that point, we will consider the possibility of moving to maybe a great club like Inter.
“But for now, I repeat, there is absolutely nothing.”
