Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard should retain the England captaincy when Rio Ferdinand returns.
Gerrard has impressed in the role during England’s recent European Qualifiers, and Robson sees no reason why he shouldn’t keep the armband when Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand returns to the setup.
Capello has previously maintained that Ferdinand is still his captain, despite the 31-year-old’s lengthy absence, but Robson believes the form and leadership credentials shown by Gerrard merits he remains England’s captain.
Robson told Goal.com: “I think Steven Gerrard is a class player, he's proven with Liverpool that he's a good captain and I don't see any reason to take the captain's armband off him.”
