Manchester United youngster Danny Welbeck has praised Arsenal prodigy Jack Wilshere, following the Gunners’ starlet’s impressive cameo for the England Under-21’s on Tuesday night.
Welbeck, on loan at Sunderland for the season, scored twice against Lithuania to ensure Stuart Pearce’s side qualify for the European Championship play-offs, but the aforementioned Arsenal sensation was the architect of England’s hard-fought 3-0 victory.
The gifted Manchester United striker believes Wilshere’s appearance had a galvanising effect on the rest of the team, suggesting the midfielder was the catalyst for England’s victory at Colchester.
Welbeck told the FA.COM: “Jack’s a quality player and you’ve seen him do it at all levels. You know when he is on the pitch he can always feed it through to you from anywhere.
“He wasn’t even looking at me when he passed it through for my first goal, but he just knew I was there so that shows his quality. He seemed to have an effect on all the players.
“The players who were on beforehand in the first half worked hard, ground Lithuania down and by the end they were getting a bit tired. That’s when we took over.”
