Toffees ace welcomes Rodwell threat
Everton star Tim Cahill says that he welcomes the challenge to his first team place presented by the emergence of Jack Rodwell as an attacking midfielder.
Toffees boss David Moyes had recently been quoted as saying that he sees 19 year-old Rodwell as pushing the 30 year-old Cahill for a place at the moment, and the clamour is growing amongst the Goodison Park faithful to see the England U21 star playing more regularly.
Australia international Cahill, the only player to score a Premier League goal for Everton so far this season, signed a new long-term contract in the summer to keep him at the club he has plied his trade at for six years.
The Liverpool Echo quote Cahill as saying: “I have been with the manager a long time.
“Whether it is tongue in cheek or whether it is true, I am not bothered because I am a professional and I have been around the block a few times.
“It is just something that comes with the territory.”
Rodwell is a doubt for Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff against Manchester United with an ankle injury. Louis Saha, who limped off during France’s dismal 1-0 home defeat to Belarus, could also miss out.
