Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson are set to lock horns once more in the battle to sign Panathinaikos wonderkid Sotiris Ninis.

Ninis, 20, is the shining white light of Greek football having been handed the captaincy of Panathinaikos at the tender age of 18. Already a Greek international with 7 international caps Ninis is being monitored Manchester United closely with Ferguson instructing scouts to monitor the forward for the next six months.

Ferguson’s old adversary Mourinho is aware of the youngster’s talents from his Inter Milan days and has instructed his scouts to monitor the player after the Greek club indicated they would welcome a January offer for the playmaker. Ninis has been compared to German playmaker Mezut Ozil, however the Greek youngster can play through the middle, in a wide position, or behind the strikers.

Reports in the player’s homeland suggest Ferguson has earmarked Ninis as a possible successor to Paul Scholes ,with the Greek media drawing comparisons with the mercurial number 18. The reports also intimated that the club would be willing to sell their prized asset in January, if Ferguson was willing to loan the player back for a season.
