Barca "re-establish" contact with Arsenal following Fabregas pursuit
Barcelona Technical Director Andoni Zubizarreta has revealed that the Spanish champions have “re-established” contact with Arsenal after relations became strained between the two clubs following the Spanish club's public pursuit of the Gunner's skipper.
Barcelona publicly courted Gunners captain Fabregas during the summer with Barcelona players and officials urging the former catalan youngster to re-join his first club.
The Spanish giants had two offers rejected for Fabregas with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refusing to sell his prized asset and captain. Zubizarreta has now admitted that it was “impossible” to sign the World Cup winner, however the club have re-ignited contact with the North London club.
Technical Director Zubizarreta told the official Barcelona website:
"Both the club and the player did as much as possible. Our second offer was €40m. However, from the moment Arsenal said they didn’t want to negotiate, we respected their position.
"We would have liked to have signed him but we weren’t able to negotiate. It wasn’t a disappointment, as it was simply impossible.
"Thanks to the conversations, we have re-established contact with Arsenal though."
