Former Liverpool and England defender Neil Ruddock believes that new reds manager Roy Hodgson must bring in one more world class striker during the summer transfer window help Fernando Torres.

Ruddock, was at Liverpool between 1993 and 1998 making 115 appearances in the famous Liverpool jersey, and he is hopeful ahead of the new campaign that Roy Hodgson can lead Liverpool into a new successful era on Merseyside. The England defender did stress however that Hodgson must look to find a world class striker to share the burden of scoring goals with Spain international Fernando Torres.

Ruddock told Sport.co.uk: “I wanted Joe Cole, and I was happy we got him. But I do think we need another world class striker. There is no quality back up for Fernando Torres. It is quality they need, you look at Manchester United, if Wayne Rooney isn’t fit, they can bring in top quality strikers, not like Liverpool. The same at Chelsea if Didier Drogba is out, they have quality throughout the squad. That is the major difference.”

Former Liverpool defender Neil Ruddock is taking part in a one-furlong horse-race alongside Ray Parlour, Kerry Dixon, Steve Lomas, and David May. Keep your eyes on www.betfairfootball.co.uk for more news on the Betfair Five Horse Race.
