Manchester United’s new signing Javier Hernandez, who will wear the number 14 shirt at Old Trafford in his debut Premier League season, was the quickest player at the World Cup finals according to FIFA’s stats.

Following the 22-year-old’s showings in South Africa, the burden of expectation is already on the prolific forward’s shoulders, and according to reports, Sir Alex Ferguson has signed the fastest player from the World Cup.

Hernandez’s top speed was clocked at 19.97 mph, which made him the speediest player on show, but still someway shy of the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, who averaged 23 mph, when he won Gold at the 2008 Olympics.

Manchester United fans will be hoping their newest recruit can alleviate the goal scoring burden currently carried by Wayne Rooney next season, and his nine goals in 16 games for Mexico should give them cause for optimism.
