Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has admitted he is extremely flattered to be linked with Inter Milan.

The Anfield talisman endured an injury hit campaign at Liverpool last season, but his goal scoring record still stands at a hugely impressive 56 goals in just 79 league games for the Merseyside club.

The recent appointment of Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan, the man responsible for taking Torres from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool in 2007, is rumoured to be interested in taking the prolific Spaniard to Serie A, and the 26-year-old did little to quash speculation he wants to leave Anfield.

Liverpool finished seventh last season and following the departure of Rafa Benitez, a host of the club’s top stars have been linked with moves away from Anfield. Captain Steven Gerrard is reportedly a target for Real Madrid, while Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun have also been targeted by other clubs. Liverpool are expected to name Roy Hodgson as Benitez’s successor later in the week, but despite the pending arrival of the current Fulham boss, Torres suggested he was flattered by interest from Benitez.

The Liverpool star is quoted by Fourfourtwo.com, saying: “It is always wonderful to be linked with big clubs.”

“I can’t help but be pleased and flattered,”

“It seems to me fairly normal that the big clubs should be interested in the top players of sides who are struggling.”
