According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid will offer Manchester City €48.7 million in a bid to lure Carlos Tevez to the Bernabeu. Since Jose Mourinho’s appointment, the La Liga giants have been linked with a host of the Premier League’s top players, most notably Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, Chelsea star Frank Lampard, Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, and Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, and now it appears they have another in their sights in the shape of the diminutive Eastlands forward.
Spanish daily ‘Sport’ suggest Real Madrid will offer Manchester City €48.7 million, having admitted defeat in their tentative overtures towards Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. The newspaper intimates the lucrative approach could turn Tevez’s head towards La Liga and the chance to renew acquaintances with his former Old Trafford teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite enjoying a stunning debut season at the Eastlands club, Roberto Mancini’s side failed to secure Champions League football and Tevez, according to reports in Spain no less, would consider swapping the Premier League for La Liga and in the process earn wages in excess of £180,000 a week. Mourinho has also been strongly linked with Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and his former Chelsea star Frank Lampard, but he appears more intent on signing a new striker.
Tevez left Manchester United to join their bitter rivals Manchester City last summer, and despite the controversy, the former West Ham United star made an almost seamless transition from Old Trafford to Eastlands, netting 28 goals for Roberto Mancini’s side. But it appears his form, which he has brought to the World Cup finals with Argentina, scoring a brace in their 3-1 win over Mexico last night, has alerted Real Madrid who are reportedly willing to offer the striker a staggering five-year deal worth close to £200,000 a week. Real Madrid are willing to pay their Premier league counterparts €48.7 million to lure the former Manchester United star to the Bernabeu and although Roberto Mancini would be extremely reluctant to lose the player, Sport intimate Tevez could engineer a move by handing in a written transfer request.
Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid employers have told the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ that he would have to jettison some of the club’s lesser established stars in order to fund lucrative moves such as the purported Manchester City overture, and therefore Roberto Mancini could have his pick of any number of the La Liga side’s players most notably Karim Benzema, Rafael Van der Vaart, or Sergio Ramos. Should Mourinho’s efforts to prise Tevez away from the City of Manchester Stadium be successful, Sport suggest it would end the La Liga side’s efforts to snare either Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney or Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard, both of whom have been heavily linked with Real.
