Atletico Madrid's former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan would welcome a return to England after resurrecting his career in La Liga. The striker is perpetually linked with a move back to England following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, amid long-term interest from Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and most recently Arsenal.
The 31-year-old, who is currently in South Africa with the rest of the Uruguay World Cup squad, scored 17 times in 97 appearances for the Red Devils, before heading to Spain in the summer of 2004. He has since emerged as one of the league top goalscorers with first Villarreal and more recently Atletico, and was Fulham's nemesis in the Europa League final scoring a brace to down Roy Hodgson's men. Manchester City's Roberto Mancini was linked with a £20 million move last month, while Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has openly admitted his admiration for the former Manchester United striker. Although he was jettisoned by Sir Alex Ferguson and branded a flop, the player's reputation is well and truely restored and both Liverpool, and more recently Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, have been strongly linked with a potential star of the World Cup.
The former Manchester United forward claims he would be interested in returning to the Premier League, and the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal could all be encouraged to bid for the proven goal scorer.
The reputed Premier League star, who would prove a useful addition to Tottenham Hotspur, given their recently aquired Champions League status told Sky Sports: "If there is an offer and it's good for Atletico and good for me, I would be really happy to go back to England.
"If a big chance to return to England came up, I would have to look at it. I loved my time in English football - the people, the fans, the football, everything.
"I wasn't sad the way it ended at United to be honest. I was really happy during my time there and thank the people at United for how they treated me.
"During my period there I learnt a lot of things and had a good relationship with everyone. The reason I left was because I didn't have the chance to play as regularly as I wanted.
"Now I have the chance to play regularly the way I wanted and I am really happy I'm doing that."
Forlan is one half of one of the most potent attacking line-ups currently about to begin the World Cup. His striker partner, Ajax's Luis Suarez, has also been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League amid interest from Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson, Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger.
A good showing by either player in South Africa would certainly reignite interest in the goal-getting prowess, with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all on their radars.
