Chelsea and Manchester City are preparing to make formal offers for Liverpool forward Fernando Torres. In the last two days Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and manager Carlo Ancelotti have laid the groundwork for a bid by praising the Spanish striker, while Manchester City Roberto Mancini has openly admitted his admiration for the talented Spanish international.

With Liverpool failing to qualify for the Champions League, and with the unstable nature surrounding the boardroom at Anfield the Merseyside club has not issued any official confirmations that talismanic striker Fernando Torres and captain Steven Gerrard will be staying at the club.  Liverpool boss Benitez is still unsure of his future, but whoever is in charge of the Reds come this summer will have to sell players in order to bring fresh players into the dressing room. Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to make formal enquiries for the Spanish striker, with both clubs eager not to aggrivate relations with Liverpool. Reports suggest that blues boss Carlo Ancelotti and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will prioritise offers for the player in the coming weeks.

Sports bookmaker’s SKY BET have given Chelsea the edge in the race to sign Torres, while Manchester City are a close second. The Spanish striker has not issued a public statement regarding his future and it is unknown at this point in time whether he will look to leave Anfield, however reports confirm that Chelsea and Manchester City will test Liverpool’s resolve with a big money offer.

SKY BET – FERNANDO TORRES’ NEXT CLUB

CHELSEA – 5/1

MANCHESTER CITY – 6/1

'Well, where do I start. First of all, Liverpool fans, you really do need a reality check. You have just had an unbelievably piss poor season. Anyone with half an ounce of sense could tell that neither Torres or Gerrard are happy at your club. It makes not difference what the fat waiter or your dopey new chairman says. They are on there way. I would like to either at my club Man City but can't imagine it happening. But they will move, you can't live off your history for ever. History doesn't guarentee you anything. Wake up and smell the coffee. As for Chelsea and Torres. Well Nigel, you havn't got a clue. I sat and watched an interview 4 days ago with Ancelotti where he categorically says he has no intention of bidding for Torres as he is happ with his front line. LISTEN!!!!!!!!'

'Nigel Brown- have you actually paid ANY attention to anything that has been said by those at Liverpool in the last few weeks???? 'Torres and Gerrard do not need to be sold'. Listen to what the people at the club are saying rather than spouting media driven clap trap.'

'Well said Billy. It doesn't seem to matter to anyone in the press what Liverpool have said, they're loving the fact we're in the situation we are. If all reports were to be believed, we'll have no Torres, Gerrard, Aquilani, Mascherano, Benayoun, Riera, Babel etc....... Why would Liverpool sell their best assets when theyr'e trying to sell the club, whoever comes in will know they have to build a whole team as well as a stadium if we sell everyone. I've started to ignore 'speculation' until i see some of these players pictured in another teams kit.........'

'How many more times does it need to be said Rafa and the new Director. LFC hve no need or want to sell Torres or Gerrard. Unless these players come out and say they want to leave, just shut the £^&$ up about it.'
