Manchester United have handed Portugal winger Nani a new five-year contract.

The 23-year-old international wideman has been rewarded for a breakthrough season at Old Trafford with a lucrative new deal which ties him to the club until June 2014.

Nani joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 and has been given a more prominent role in the first team following last summer's departure of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

He has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season and has scored two goals.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract. It has been like a dream come true to play for Manchester United," he told the club's official website.

"The coaching staff have taught me so much about the game and I'm playing alongside some of the best players in the world. I'm looking forward to winning many more trophies with this team."

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson added: "Nani is an emerging talent within the team and has developed tremendously since joining the club.

"We are delighted he has signed a new contract and I am sure he will have a long and successful future here at Manchester United."
