Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has welcomed Chris Iwelumo back to Molineux following his loan spell at Bristol City but now seems set to allow Stefan Maierhofer to move to the Robins for a month.
Austria international Maierhofer has made just one Premier League start since his £1.8million move from Rapid Vienna last summer and has been plagued by several niggling injuries with his foot and ankle.
Meanwhile, Scotland international Iwelumo has spent the last month on loan at Ashton Gate, scoring twice in seven appearances for the Championship side.
McCarthy said of Iwelumo's return: "Chris has enjoyed his time at Bristol City playing games and scoring a couple of goals. It's given him the chance to build his match sharpness up.
"He had the opportunity to stay there for longer and also go elsewhere but decided he wanted to come back and try and force his way into the team. Like all of the squad, he just wants to be involved and that's a really positive attitude to have."
Meanwhile, City manager Gary Johnson said of Iwelumo: "We thank Chris for his time with us. There were a few factors. I had a chat with Mick (McCarthy) and I think a lot of it was down to the player.
"Chris worked so hard getting to the Premier League and I think he wants to be there for the final weeks of the season. He wants to be with his family and try and see if he can win a place in the first team at the top level."
