Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic admits he is delighted that he and Rio Ferdinand are back playing alongside each other again. The two Old Trafford stalwarts have struggled with various injuries throughout the campaign and Sir Alex Ferguson has had to rely on Jonny Evans and Wes Brown for large periods of the season.
Vidic claims he and Ferdinand understand each other’s games implicitly, but dismissed the widely held notion that the recently appointed England captain is the more fashionable of the pair, claiming his Manchester United colleague can be robust when the situation requires.
Vidic and Ferdinand were paired together during Manchester United’s 4-0 destruction of AC Milan, and Serbian international suggests their partnership has matured over the last few years mainly thanks to a greater level of communication alongside regulars Edwin Van Der Sar and Patrice Evra.
Speaking about his partnership with Rio Ferdinand, the Manchester United defender told the press: “We understand each other, we know all about each other.”
"He knows how I will react in certain situations and it is the same the other way round.”
"I know there is this feeling that I get all the knocks and Rio has the ball. But we both do both things and we can both be aggressive.
"I don't think my job is hard and his is easy."
The Serbian concluded: “Communication between us all has been built up over a long time,"
"It is nice when you have an understanding. We know what each other is going to do
Indeed Vidic’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted the pair’s return at the heart of Manchester United’s defence could prove telling as the season reaches its climax.
Ferguson said: "Having them back is fantastic for us,"
"They were both brilliant on Wednesday. It is definitely gives us a big chance because they bring us experience and consistency."
