Rafael Benitez has demanded a European response from his under-fire Liverpool players when they take on Lille on Thursday.
Benitez turned on his under-performing stars after they lost 1-0 at Wigan Athletic on Monday.
The Spaniard fears the defeat at the DW Stadium could cost them dearly in the race to finish fourth in the Premier League this season and qualify for the Champions League.
However, he believes Thursday's Europa League last 16 clash with Lille in France is the perfect opportunity to move on from their domestic disappointment.
"We are looking for a reaction," he declared. "We know sometimes it's not easy when you have a game so soon, but it can be very positive.
"Hopefully we'll have the reaction and show on the pitch we are a strong side.
"Outside the pitch we have to keep focused and on the pitch we have to show we're ready to win and show we have the desire.
"We were talking about this today. The players know we weren't doing well and we have to improve.
"Everyone knows it was a bad performance and we missed an opportunity."
