Championship leaders Newcastle United have earmarked Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara as their first major signing should they make an immediate return to the Premier League. The former England Under-21 international has spent the season on loan at crisis riddled Portsmouth FC, and although he retains unfulfilled ambitions at White Hart Lane, the 23-year-old is likely to be some way down the pecking order in Harry Redknapp’s midfield.
Newcastle United are currently six points clear with a game in hand over West Bromwich Albion but manager Chris Hughton has been told he will have limited funds to spend in the summer, and the Daily Star report the North East giants will be able to secure the talented Tottenham Hotspur for around £3 million.
Chris Hughton remains a huge admirer of O’Hara from his time as coach at Tottenham Hotspur, and the midfielder’s form for Portsmouth this season has done little to change the Newcastle United manager’s view of the midfielder.
The former England Under-21 international has played 21 games for Portsmouth FC this season, and although he recently suggested he would sit down with Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp in the summer, the player will have further first-team opportunities at Newcastle United. The midfielder has been linked with Sunderland FC, Fulham FC , Bolton Wanderers and Everton FC in the past.
