Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has lauded his Old Trafford teammate Paul Scholes as one of all the all-time greats of the game, suggesting he remains a shining example to any young professional in the game.
The evergreen 35-year-old scored Manchester United’s winner against Wolves and his 100th Premier League goal on Saturday to maintain Sir Alex Ferguson’s pursuit of an unprecedented four league titles in a row, and Ferdinand suggests Scholes’ peers are more than aware of how good a player he is, despite his modest and understated nature.
Ferdinand claimed Scholes is still an inspiration to his Manchester United colleagues despite his advancing years, lauding the diminutive midfielder as a ‘true professional’.
The Manchester United stalwart told the press: “He’s a great player. He’s a real player’s player.”
“Any player that plays with him and against him, they’d all have him in their top 2 or 3 players that ever they’ve played against.”
“All the great players in the world you hear that have played against him, speak about him always say that, so that speaks volumes of what he is.”
"He’s a true professional, like many other players we’ve got at this club and he inspires a lot of the young lads coming through and the players currently playing in the first team.”
