Arsenal FC legend Bob Wilson believes 19-year-old Wojciech Szczesny can be the answer to Arsene Wenger’s goalkeeping conundrum in the not too distant future. The Polish international is currently on loan at Brentford but Wenger’s former goalkeeping coach believes he has the potential to be Arsenal’s number one for many years to come.
Arsene Wenger’s record of buying goalkeepers has been called into question of late, following a disastrous showing by Lukasz Fabianski in the Champions League against FC Porto, and some unconvincing glove work by Arsenal FC’s current number one Manuel Almunia; however Wilson believes the solution is lying beneath the Frenchman’s nose in the shape of Szczesny.
The 6ft 5in Poland international is currently enjoying a loan spell in League One, but Szczesny is highly rated by Arsenal FC insiders and Wilson suggests he is definitely one for the future.
The Arsenal FC legend told Goal.com: “He’s (Szczesny) one you should keep your eye on,”
“He broke both his arms last year but he’s on loan at Brentford and he’s been sensational.”
Indeed, in January, Wenger seemingly indicated the player had already been earmarked for greater things at Arsenal FC, when he suggested the young Pole was the club’s natural heir to the number one jersey, which many believe has not been filled since David Seaman’s departure in 2003.
Wenger said: "I really believe in him that he will one day be Arsenal's No.1. He has all the qualities you want from a goalkeeper."
