Arsenal Legend: There is life after Fabregas
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has told talkSPORT Magazine that if Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas does leave the Emirates in the summer the team can be rebuilt. Keown does admit that Arsene Wenger would rather keep hold of his inspirational skipper, but, if the Spaniard did leave, the team could still go on to win silverware.
The former Gunner saw a number of top players leave Arsenal during his tenure, such as Nicolas Anelka, Marc Overmars, Patrick Vieira, and Emmanuel Petit, and despite this the Arsenal team went on to win the Premier League in 2002 and going a whole season unbeaten in the Premier League.
Keown told talkSPORT Magazine that Fabregas could still stay at the club, but admitted that top players have been allowed to leave by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in the past.
“Cesc won the European championship recently with Spain, and that satisfied him for now. We have to see how he responds. But what you want to do is to keep winning things in order to keep your best players. Players have been allowed to leave in the past.
“We saw Anelka leave, Overmars leave, Petit leave, and the team from 1998 went on win things in 2002. The team can be rebuilt but you do not want to be losing someone of Cesc’s ability. “
