Reports in Spain suggest Arsenal FC boss Arsene Wenger will sanction the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona in the summer, because the North London based Premier League club remain on questionable financial ground. The latest report continues to defy Arsenal’s insistence that the club’s talisman is not for sale, in addition to the 22-year-old’s own personal plea of loyalty to the Gunners.
Catalan based daily, Sport, suggest Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will agree to sell Fabregas in June for 50 million euros, should he wish to return to Barcelona. The tabloid claims Wenger has always been reluctant to hold onto players who wish to leave, sighting previous examples of Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Petit, and Alexander Hleb.
The diminutive Arsenal talisman is regularly used by Barcelona’s hierarchy as pawn in their presidential election campaigns, and recently the Premier League club’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis reportedly wrote to Joan Laporta imploring the European Cup holders to resign such tactics. Although Laporta denied last week’s speculation that Barcelona had an agreement in place with Fabregas, rumours of the Spanish international’s purported move to the Nou Camp persist.
The latest report from Sport intimates Arsenal would entertain selling Fabregas in the summer in order to alleviate financial concerns surrounding their repayment plans for the Emirates stadium. The newspaper even suggests the Premier League club would be wary of trying to negotiate on the alleged 50 million euros fee in fear of scuppering the deal.
Last week Fabregas once again pledged his love and loyalty to Arsenal, but did little to defuse the speculation by claiming he wants to play for his boyhood club before he retires.
