Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has lavished praise on Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and acknowledged his players must be wary of the 24-year-old when they host Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at Villa Park tomorrow night. The former Celtic boss suggests Rooney’s pedigree has been abundantly clear for some time, and intimates the England international’s insatiable desire has assured he has hit the heights he promised as youngster with Everton.

Manchester United travel to Aston Villa in the Premier League tomorrow night, knowing a nothing but a win would suffice in their quest to win an unprecedented fourth league title in a row. O’Neill believes his players should be cautious of the Manchester United talisman but not in awe of him.

The Aston Villa boss claims the Manchester United star’s attitude is just as important as his undoubted ability.

The Aston Villa manager told Sky Sports: “He's playing brilliantly and as I said he's a brilliant footballer and has been for quite some considerable time now,”

“You could see that in his very, very early days at Everton and he is definitely maturing into a wonderful player.”

“He's got a fantastic attitude as well and I think that is almost as important as his ability and he will be hard to handle.”

“But we've got one or two players ourselves in terms of having ability that will cause Manchester United  a few problems.”
