Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack believes Didier Drogba is completely unique and cannot be compared to Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney or Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin. The German international captain suggests the Ivorian offers more to his team because of his strength, power and indeed his threat from set pieces.
The form of Manchester United talisman Wayne Rooney and Chelsea’s Didier Drogba over the last few weeks has reignited the debate over who is best the striker in the Premier League, yet Ballack suggests his Stamford Bridge teammate is peerless because of his all-round qualities.
Drogba’s well taken brace against Arsenal at the weekend ensured they returned to the top of the league, two points clear of Manchester United. Drogba is second in the goal scoring charts to Wayne Rooney, who has scored four more goals than the Ivorian.
Ballack told Chelsea’s official website: “He(Drogba) is a very individual type of player. He is different from [Wayne] Rooney or [Andrey] Arshavin.”
“He is unbelievable, with physical strength and technical ability. He's a striker but also a free-kick taker.”
“In fact, he is a striker with a lot of other qualities. Not many players have this.”
“You see in the big games like Arsenal, he was there.”
“That is why he is a big player.”
