Former Arsenal player Bob McNab, who made 365 appearances for the Gunners between 1966-1975, believes the legendary double-winning side of 1971 would beat Arsene Wenger’s current crop of youngsters.

Speaking to www.arsenal.usa.com, the former Highbury hero gave his honest assessment of the hypothetical match-up which would pitch the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Andrey Arshavin against Frank McClintock and Charlie George.

“I think we’d beat the team today because we’d be too physical for them. They’ve got some lovely footballers, but Ray Kennedy and John Radford were two power forwards, six foot, quick, and big.

“Little George Armstrong would cause them problems with his crosses and his ability to beat people. And defensively, I think we’d be a little too smart for them. But then again, you never know.”

McNab, who was capped four times by England, left Arsenal for a short spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers before spending his twilight years in the United States with the San Antonio Thunder and Vancouver Whitecaps. His daughter Mercedes McNab is a notable actress who played the role of Harmony Kendall on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel before posing on the cover of Playboy in 2006.
