Chelsea star John Terry has vowed to try and regain the England captaincy after being demoted to the ranks by head coach Fabio Capello due to off-field problems.
The 29-year-old has been front-page news throughout the week due to an affair with the ex-girlfriend of former Blues team-mate Wayne Bridge and Capello decided to make a change as a result of the media storm.
A Friday meeting at Wembley lasted just a matter of minutes, with Capello opting to hand the armband to Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand.
Sources close to Terry later told The Sun that the defender commented: "I have fought all my life and I'm not going to stop now.
"If there's a one per cent chance of being World Cup captain, I will fight for it tooth and nail.
"I was devastated when he said I was losing the job as England captain. I didn't expect that when I walked in.
"But I think I could return as captain once the dust settles and the heat is taken out of the situation. There is every reason for me to fight to get the armband back."
