Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney have moved some way clear of the chasing pack in Sport.co.uk’s latest poll ‘Who has been the Premier League’s player of the season?’ Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson’s leading lights are battling it out at then top with 35% and 34% of the vote respectively, while Manchester City hero Carlos Tevez, Aston Villa’s James Milner, Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Liverpool’s Fernando Torres are all languishing behind.

Fabregas has been in scintillating form for Arsenal this season and initially was the outright leader by a distance until Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United beat Arsene Wenger’s side 3-1 courtesy of another brilliant performance by Wayne Rooney. The 24-year-old Old Trafford star scored his 21st Premier League goal of an already prolific campaign and he has shot up the list to compete with the Emirates prized asset. The next closest is Roberto Mancini’s little gem Carlos Tevez who has shrugged off his early season fitness concerns to fire Manchester City to within touching distance of fourth place. Behind the diminutive City of Manchester Stadium hero is the ever improving Aston Villa midfielder James Milner, who looks an almost certainty for the World Cup thanks the brilliant guidance of Martin O’Neill. Milner is closely followed by reputed Chelsea target, Everton star Marouane Fellaini, whose industry and presence in the centre of David Moyes’ midfield has proved invaluable to the Goodison Park faithful. Chelsea are being led by the muscular powerhouse of Didier Drogba whose goals at Stamford Bridge have ensured they remain above the chasing Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City thus far. Other players in the running are Liverpool and Anfield hero Fernando Torres, who despite being injured for large periods of the campaign has again worked wonders for Rafa Benitez.

Everton’s Steven Pienaar, Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard and Birmingham City’s Joe Hart have all earned votes as have the on-fire Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. Who do you think should win the current poll? Are there any other names worthy of a mention perhaps? Can anyone beat the Arsenal skipper, or is Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney the man now in the box seat for individual honours? Can the Everton duo of Fellaini and Pienaar make a late surge much like David Moyes’ side have done of late, or perhaps you feel Aston Villa’s Milner is the man who has improved the most? If Liverpool and Rafa Benitez get Torres fit where will he rank in the grand scheme of things? Has Manchester City striker Tevez banished his Manchester United past with his recent goals and has he done enough to top this poll. Sport.co.uk wants to know your views so post your comments in the section below.

Fabregas (Arsenal) 35%, Rooney (Manchester United) 34%, Tevez (Manchester City) 6%, Milner (Aston Villa) 3%, Fellaini (Everton)3%, Drogba (Chelsea) 2%, Torres (Liverpool) 2%
