Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has defiantly vowed to add to his glittering trophy cabinet, and in doing so prove many of the critics doubting Sir Alex Ferguson and the Premier League champions wrong.

Following Manchester United’s shock 1-0 defeat to Leeds United, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have been all but written off, yet Giggs suggested they are well placed in the Premier League and Champions League.

Speaking from the Lowry Theatre on Thursday afternoon, having been honoured with the Freedom of Salford., the 36-year-old Welshman and most decorated player in Manchester United’s history told the press: “It has always been the same here, one defeat and it is a disaster,”

“That is never going to change.”

“But we don't get carried away with that, just the same as we wouldn't get carried away if we had won 10 on the bounce.”

“It is up to us to work hard and get back to winning ways.”

“We are still in a strong position in the league and we are still in the Champions League.”

“The turn of the year is when we are notoriously at our best.”

“We have a great team at the moment and I still believe there is more for me to win.”
