Arsenal’s chances of signing a striker appeared to have increased with the news that Arsene Wenger is still none the wiser as to the availability of Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner.
The 21-year-old has been sidelined since October 31st when he was substituted with a groin problem during the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. Having undergone surgery, Bendtner had been expected to play in December but has since seen that deadline pass.
Due back at the Gunners’ training ground in Hertfordshire on Friday for further checks, Wenger confirmed to Arsenal TV Online:
"When Bendtner (groin) comes back on Friday we'll assess him," he said. "But I am not sure when he will come back.”
Last week the French coach stated that he would make a move in the January transfer window for a new striker should the Dane be ruled out again for a prolonged period of time.
"If he is out for two months, there is no way, we'll need someone absolutely,” maintained Wenger.
“We cannot have one striker. There is a 50-50 chance we will sign somebody."
It remains to be seen whether such percentages have changed, although it appears likely that an update will be given by the Arsenal coach in his weekly press conference ahead of his side’s match with Everton on Saturday.
