According to the Daily Telegraph Liverpool have reportedly rejected a bid from Olympiakos for Yossi Benayoun, but the Greek side’s business with Rafa Benitez could continue as they are now expected to bid for winger Albert Riera.
The newspaper suggests Liverpool are exploring a number of different avenues in their efforts to generate much needed funds and overhaul a squad that has thus far lost seven Premier League games already. Although Rafa Benitez has been told he will have no funds available to bring in new players, the former Valencia coach is eyeing up a number of high-profile loan deals said to include the likes of Atletico Madrid midfielder Maxi Rodriguez.
Prior to completing any such deals, the under-fire Liverpool supremo must free-up funds in order to afford any wages that would accompany the expected influx of loan signings. The club are currently negotiating with Napoli over the sale of Andrea Dossena and Benitez is desperately trying to sell Ukrainian international Andriy Voronin.
The Telegraph claim Benitez has rejected any notion of selling Benayoun but would consider selling Riera, who has found himself increasingly marginalised from the Liverpool’s first eleven following an encouraging first season at Anfield.
According to the report Olympiakos will offer Benitez £5 million for Riera, in a deal which is likely to suit all parties. Riera recently suggested he would have to look for another club should he continue to be overlooked, because of his desire to represent Spain at the World Cup.
