Chelsea are eager to beat a host of Europe’s top clubs in the race to sign the highly-rated Anderlecht forward Romelu Lukaku according to the Daily Mail. Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all had the 16-year-old watched this season, and despite his tender years, he is already over six foot two inches and 14 stone. Already dubbed the ‘next Drogba’ he has scored eight goals in 14 games and in addition to the Premier League both AC Milan and Barcelona are monitoring his rapid development.
Despite the mounting interest, Lukaku recently signed professional terms at the club which in theory tie him to the Belgian giants until 2012 however his contract is believed to have numerous clauses enabling him to leave should the right offer be received. His father however has dismissed any notion of him leaving for the time being, claiming the boy’s education is also important.
He is quoted by the Mail, saying: “Other clubs can make as many offers as they want, my son is going to finish school,”
“That’s another 18 months. I’m going mad with all these managers calling me about my son. I tell them, ‘It makes no sense. He’s going nowhere’.”
