Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni is being hotly tipped to make a January return to Italy with AS Roma following his fall-out with coach Louis van Gaal.
Toni was axed from the squad that defeated Hannover 3-0 on Sunday following his public criticism of the under-pressure Dutch coach.
Bayern issued a club fine in the wake of his outburst and Toni is now expected to return to Serie A when the transfer window reopens in January.
Speaking last week he claimed his Bayern career was likely to be over after saying: "My relationship with the coach is terminated, I want to return to Italy."
The 32-year-old striker has scored 38 goals during his two-and-a-half year spell in the Bundesliga.
