Manchester United starlet Gabriel Obertan has played down comparisons with Old Trafford legend Cristiano Ronaldo despite another good performance for the Premier league champions in last night’s defeat to Besiktas. The 20-year-old Frenchman, signed from Bordeaux in the summer, has shown encouraging signs for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side but he was quick to play down comparisons with the current world and European player of the year.
Obertan told the press after night's Champions League defeat to Besiktas: “I'm not Ronaldo's successor,”
“I just try to be Gabriel Obertan and just work hard. There's no comparison possible for now.”
Despite an encouraging start to life at Old Trafford and good display last night, the young Frenchman admitted there is plenty more to come.
He added: “I tried to and want to do more. I've not scored yet or made an assist,”.
“I've had some good performances when I've come on, but I want to do more than that. I think I could do more. I really wish I could do more.”
