Henry Winkler, best known as The Fonz from iconic television show Happy Days, will attend this Sunday’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool on a personal invite from Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright.

Winkler is set to star as Captain Hook in the Liverpool Empire’s Christmas Panto version of Peter Pan, alongside such big-name draws as Les Dennis and Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten.

He said: “On Sunday I’m watching the derby game, I've been asked by a man called Bill to go in a box.”

In a suitably bizarre article from the Liverpool Daily Post, Winkler also revealed that he bought an “exceptional” towel from John Lewis, and that he’s still on the look out for a decent Bolognese.

In January 2007, Sylvester Stallone went to Goodison Park to take in Everton’s 1-1 draw at home to Reading.

Rumours that Kenwright has described Winkler as ‘like a new signing’ are so far completely unfounded.
