Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has allayed fears over the fitness of Rio Ferdinand claiming he could return in a matter of weeks rather months. The 31-year-old England international has struggled with form and fitness all season and reports yesterday suggested he may be out until the New Year, however the Premier League champions now hope that prognosis was wide of the mark. Ferdinand has been suffering with a chronic back injury, and up until the Liverpool game the clubs’ doctors were hoping to manage it, however they have now decided to give the player an extended spell on the sideline in order for him to make a full recovery.
Ferguson told Sky Sports: “It is back related,”
“We are not putting a timescale on it, but it is not a situation where we are saying it will be months, it might be a couple of weeks or it might be a few weeks but that is it.”
