Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is set to join QPR on loan as he steps up his recovery from serious injury.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international endured knee surgery almost 15 months ago and has featured in only three games since - Rovers' three Carling Cup games this season.

Reid will spend a month on loan at Loftus Road as he attempts to persuade Allardyce that he deserves a new Ewood Park contract.

The Blackburn manager said: "We had a chat and it was Steven's decision. He said he fancied it and wanted to get a few games under his belt to improve his fitness."

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni angered Rovers last month when he intimated that Reid's career was over when the midfielder pulled out of his country's final World Cup qualifying games with an Achilles injury.

The Italian claimed a full recovery for Reid would be 'very, very difficult' but Allardyce responded furiously, claiming he was 'factually wrong' and 'out of order'.

Former Millwall star Reid has made 127 first-team appearances for Rovers since moving to Ewood Park in the summer of 2003.
