England boss Fabio Capello has confirmed Manchester United star Wayne Rooney will captain his country for the first time if Chelsea defender John Terry is not fit to play against Brazil tomorrow. Capello has a number of senior players unavailable to him, most notably Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard.

Capello told Sky Sports News: “If John Terry doesn't play, it will be Wayne Rooney,”

“He is fit and he is ready to be a captain.”
