The Weekend Debate: Who will win the 2010 World Cup?
Not all the teams are decided yet but Sport.co.uk thought they would throw the big question out there anyway. This weekend Premier League stars around the world will either be participating in, or paying close attention to the World Cup Playoffs to see the final teams who will make up next summer’s tournament in South Africa. Fabio Capello’s England have given Three Lions’ fans something to smile about of late but can Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, Chelsea’s John Terry and Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard finally lay the 1966 ghost to rest? Or will defending champions Italy once again come out on top? Carlos Dunga has Brazil playing an unprecedented, pragmatic brand of football that deals in results, but can they win in 2009? Barcelona star Lionel Messi will be there next year but can he inspire an out of sorts Argentina side led by Diego Maradona or will Holland finally realise their potential now that Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is proving to be everything Arsene Wenger had hoped? Can France overcome their tricky games against the Republic of Ireland and win their first major tournament since the European Championships 2000? Or will Spain justify their pre-tournament favourites tag and conquer all before them? With that in mind Sport.co.uk wants to know ‘Who will win the 2010 World Cup?’
