Liverpool striker David N'Gog will not allow the dive storm which has erupted in recent days to overshadow his progress this season.

N'Gog, 20, has scored four goals in nine appearances in all competitions for the Reds during a breakthrough season, but has found himself in the spotlight after winning a hotly-disputed penalty to earn his side a controversial 2-2 draw with Birmingham City on Monday night.

However, despite the furore, N'Gog insists he is able to cope with the pressure of being in the glare of the media spotlight.

"If you can come through difficulties in life, it will make you stronger in the future," he said.

"I remember at my old club, Paris St German, we were facing relegation, there were a lot of outside distractions.

"It meant I learnt a lot about being a footballer and dealing with pressure.

"I am not 21 until next April so I have plenty of time to learn more and I couldn't be learning from a better boss than Rafa Benitez or a better striker than Fernando Torres."

'He's progressing well for a young lad (which everyone seems to have forgotten he is), it was just a shame that he had to resort to doing that against Birmingham. This could be the making of him though, and he'll hopefully emerge stronger. '
