Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe revealed to Sport.co.uk that the best manager he ever worked with was George Graham. The Arsenal hero was manager at Elland Road between 1996 and 1998 and the defender, who is an ambassador for the FIFA 2010 World Cup in his native South Africa, suggested many of his teammates joked he was Graham’s long lost son because they got on so well.
Radebe told Sport.co.uk: “We had a transition when George Graham came in and gave me the captaincy for pure hard work, and I just wanted to do the best I can and give a hundred per cent commitment to the club.”
“I’d like to say thank you for the opportunity because he’s (Graham) one of the best… actually, he is the best coach that I ever worked under.”
“He’s one of the coaches that made me who I am, especially as a defender.”
“We had a great relationship; I know most of the players said I was a long, lost son of George!”
“But I really enjoyed working under George and he shouldn’t have left Leeds [when he did].”
