Liverpool are reportedly considering a bid for Real Madrid star Lassana Diarra. The Sunday People claim the former Portsmouth midfielder, who also had brief spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal, is unsettle in Spain despite being a first team regularly at the Bernabeu, and as a result is keen to return to England. The France international reportedly nearly joined Manchester City prior to leaving for La Liga last January, however persistent reports of Javier Mascherano’s desire to join Barcelona has seen Liverpool become the latest club linked with the 24-year-old.

The report suggests the midfielder would cost in excess of £20 million which would seemingly put Rafa Benitez’s side out of the running given their well publicised financial problems. Should an unlikely deal be struck the tough-tackling midfielder could be in line for his fifth club in three and half years.

'get a clue, diarra was immense when he was at pompey, one of the best holding midfielders in the country at the time and fully justified his 23mil price tag when pompey sold him to real madrid. Also hes still only 24! I would have him in my team over mashcerano any day, but then i would have him in my team rather than diaby also.'

'Talk about being lucky. This average and overated player is being constantly talked up like he was a great player. What a lucky t*sser. I just wonder when he will fully be found out as an average player that he is. If indeed its true he wants out of real madrid, it will be for reasons linked to his ego .. perhaps knowing that another big club is seeking to buy him may be his game. So, in other words, it seems he is just a serial club changer. I am mighty glad wenger let he leave with his big mouth and average skills when he did. I wish one of the top 4 contenders buy him as their main defensive midfielder. That would be like reducing their team to 10.5 on most days. Please, pool wheel out the cheque book, this guy will be great for you when mascherano leaves.'
