Top Ten: Goal-Scoring Defenders
In light of Arsenal defender Thomas Vermalen’s fourth league goal against Blackburn at the weekend, Sport.co.uk thought they would take a look at the very best Goal-Scoring Defenders. The current Sunderland boss, formerly of Wigan, Birmingham City and Crystal Palace was a prolific scorer for perennial Premier League champions Manchester United, while an ex-West Ham, Everton and Portsmouth defender had a rasping left-peg. Stuart Pearce aka ‘Psycho’ had an equally ferocious shot, used to deadly effect with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and of course England, and similarly, continuing the left-footed theme, Leeds United had a handy fullback who was more than useful from set-pieces. Chelsea and England captain John Terry is also a nuisance in an opposition’s penalty area, as his 24 career goals will attest to. Can you think of any others?
