Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill believes Gabriel Agbonlahor can play his way into the England World Cup squad following his match-winning display in Sunday's 1-0 derby success over Birmingham City.Agbonlahor's 85th-minute goal helped Villa snatch a vital local derby win at St Andrew's.

The striker's second goal of the season was Villa's one real goal opportunity of the game which summed up a tense battle.

"I am delighted for Gabby," said O'Neill. "It is a big lift for him. He was excellent against Liverpool and Fulham and again today.

"Until the World Cup gathers momentum I have not got a major worry.

"If he continues to play and perform right through the season there is no reason for him to be disregarded."

Meanwhile, O'Neill was also delighted with the performances of his three new defenders - Richard Dunne, James Collins and Stephen Warnock - on debut.

He added: "I was very pleased with all three. Their performances were excellent and they had only Friday and Saturday to acquaint themselves with each other."
