Former Chelsea, Aston Villa and Marseille striker Tony Cascarino has slammed the travelling Arsenal fans following their chaotic reaction to Emmanuel Adebayor’s enthusiastic goal-scoring celebration at Manchester City’s Eastlands Stadium on Saturday. The Togo international raced 100 yards to slide on his knees in front of his former supporters and was confronted with a barrage of abuse and several thrown objects.

Writing in The Times, player-turned-pundit Cascarino believes the Gunners fanatics should take responsibility for their part in the drama and that media attention shouldn’t focus on the emotional behaviour of Adebayor:

"Arsenal fans' abuse of Adebayor was horrifying.

“I’m not condoning Emmanuel Adebayor’s provocation of the Arsenal fans, but it looked as if many of them wanted to rip the striker’s head off just for celebrating in front of them.

“They were like caged animals. Adebayor’s getting all the blame but would it really have been totally his fault if a full-scale riot had developed?”

'How wonderfully predictable. Responses which are a result of no thought at all, full of dire predictions with zero foundation (other than your own childish wishful thinking) and more hypocracy. So you are calling the owner crooked? I sincerely hope his lawyers get wind of this (and you can be assured I will be sending them the link), as that is libel. You are probably suffiently deluded to believe you are anonymous - well you ain't sunshine.'

'I was in the section were he celebrated in front of... He was getting stick all game, but it was nothing to what Sol Campbell has put up with or more recently Defoe and it wasn't what you could describe as 'vile' either. He gave a load of interviews last week about how he loves his 'new fans' etc... But run 90 yards totally blanking them to celebrate in front of us.. And what's this 'Chelsea Legend' headline about? A journeyman player who played for Millwall at the old den, calling Arsenal fans 'caged animals'... LOL!'

'What purile drivel from a supposed expert with a rapidly deteriorating reputation . If Adebeyor had not been so mindless in both his assault on Van Persie and his goal celebration there would not have been the reaction from the Arsenal fans. I am a Villa fan so, hopefully, have no bias in viewing this incident but as a neutral, a 5 match ban would not be out of order . For Cascarino to somehow shift the blame to the Arsenal fans is a disgrace and I think his employers should seriously consider his future'

'I am an arsenal hater but what adebayor did was a disgrace kicking at a man's eyes while he was on the ground and running childessly the full field at full speed to the arsenal fans was incitement of the highest kind, we do not need these type of human beings in the game anywhere.'
