Former Arsenal, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough midfielder Paul Merson has given his view on Croatian international Niko Krancjar’s move from Portsmouth to Tottenham Hotspur and made clear that his former boss Harry Redknapp has done a great deal for the White Hart Lane outfit. The player-turned-pundit also confessed his surprise that Arsene Wenger had not attempted to lure the midfielder to Arsenal, as Redknapp prepares to utilise the 25-year-old as cover for injured compatriot Luka Modric.
“That's a great buy,” Merson told skysports.com.
“I think he's a great player. This is a long, long season and Tottenham don't want to do what Aston Villa did last year when their season fizzled out after a few injuries.
“Harry Redknapp doesn't want to fall into that trap and wants to get the personnel to change his team. Kranjcar is a very good midfield player and I'm majorly surprised somebody like Arsenal wasn't looking at him.”
