Sport.co.uk understands there will not be a late deadline day transfer for Inter Milan star Patrick Vieira. The towering French international had been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League, with both Tottenham and Arsenal seemingly interested in the midfielder, but a source close to the player suggested the 33-year-old would be staying in Serie A ahead of next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Vieira came off the bench for Jose Mourinho’s side during their 4-0 win against bitter rivals AC Milan at the weekend, and looks set to play a part in Inter’s ambitions to win an elusive Champions League title.
Vieira’s last act in English football was to score the winning penalty in the 2005 FA Cup final against Manchester United. The Frenchman subsequently left the Gunners and joined Juventus. It remains the last piece of silverware Arsene Wenger’s side won.
