French daily Le Parisien claims that Bordeaux have asked Arsenal about the availability of Swiss defender Philippe Senderos as the two clubs close in on a deal which would take Moroccan attacker Marouane Chamakh from the Stade Chaban Delmas to the Emirates.
The Ligue 1 champions have in previous days been linked with a move for veteran France international Mikael Silvestre but it appears that the potential availability of 24-year-old Senderos has turned Laurent Blanc’s head. The former Servette youngster spent last season on loan with Italian giants AC Milan after five years with the Gunners in which he has struggled to cement a first team place.
Arsene Wenger has several alternatives for the heart of his defence next year with William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Thomas Vermaelen, Johan Djourou, Alex Song and the aforementioned Silvestre and Senderos all with experience at the highest level. Given the wealth of options, it is understood that the French coach will offload at least one player as part of a defensive reshuffle.
