Spanish based journalist Guillem Balague believes Liverpool would like to sell Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid but only on their terms.
The esteemed football writer and regular on Sky Sports’ Revista de la Liga, also suggests the Premier League club’s unrealistic asking price for the 27-year-old Alonso may end Madrid’s interest in the player.
Balague told Sky Sports News: “Real will be spending more,”
“The problem is that Florentino Perez would like at least four or five of his players to be sold before buying anybody else.”
“At the other end you've got Liverpool, who maybe want to sell, but they want about €35 million.”
“Perez said there's no chance that amount of money will be spent on Xabi Alonso.”
“Everybody at Liverpool would like everything to be sorted by Sunday, when Alonso joins up with the squad - so at the moment both parties are at such a big distance.”
“It seems at the moment that it's not going to happen, but you never know.”
Real's sporting director Miguel Pardeza admitted as much, saying: “Xabi Alonso is a great player and we can't deny this team would greatly benefit from his work but it looks like the situation may not end up well for us.”
“We will nevertheless keep fighting for him and hope negotiations become reasonable again in the future.”
