Cardiff City have completed the signing of former striker Michael Chopra for a club record fee. Chopra, 25, has penned a three-year contract with the Bluebirds - the club he left in a £5million deal two years ago to join Sunderland.

The former Newcastle United striker struggled to hold down a starting place at the Premier League side and spent the second half of last season back at Cardiff on loan.

"I'm really glad it's all sorted now and, like all the other lads, I'm excited and determined to go that extra mile to gain promotion," Chopra told the club's official website.

"We are putting 110 per cent into training and there is a good feeling within the squad.

"The new stadium looks magnificent and the lads can't wait for the opener against Scunthorpe.

"These are exciting times for Cardiff and I'm really glad to now be a part of this."
